My mom says that when she used to take me to the toy store as a kid, it never took me long to find the toy I wished to buy - I always knew exactly what I wanted. And although I like to shop around a little more now, I still tend to fixate on something as soon as I decide it's what I want.
This is particularly true when shopping for specific things, like a bedding set. I'm moving out of my parents house into an apartment when I transfer to UGA this fall, and as such I've become rather obsessed with designing my new bedroom. Of course, you can't buy anything until you figure out what your bedding will look like - thus, I've been combing practically every home goods site I can find, intent on finding the perfect bedding for my new place.
After looking at practically every comforter on the planet, I decided that I wanted a solid comforter, in case I ever wanted to change things up, but one that had texture so as not to be too boring. I found this duvet from West Elm that fit the bill perfectly:
It's pretty, elegant, but casual all at once. In fact, it kind of reminds me of the gathers on the princess-like prom dresses that have been popular this year. I've been leading towards a sort of country casual/Jane Austen feel (I've been reading a lot of Jane Austen lately) and I thought this comforter struck the perfect balance between vintage and modern. Alas, the duvet itself cost $79 for a twin, and though that is still pretty reasonable for bedding, after I added the extra $19 for a sham my sum total came to $98, excluding sheets and a bedskirt. I wanted to see if I could do it cheaper, and the search was on.
It's on sale for $58.49 (Full), and includes 2 shams and the comforter. It also comes in white and brown. Alas, picky me wasn't too fond of the color (too gray) and thought the buttons at the center of the pleats would catch on clothing and get ripped off (I do a lot of studying siting on my bed). Still, I went to buy it, finding the price to good to turn down. That was, until I got to the page that showed me my total, and I saw that shipping was $26.57! Once my sum total came to $85.06, the cons began to outweigh the pros, and I bailed. The search continued.
That was until yesterday, when I returned to Amazon for the umpteenth time. I had searched on Amazon several times before, but often got frustrated because it's hard to sort out the cute stuff from the ugly, and I'm not always very patient. This time, though, I resolved to browse through all the results, just in case I discovered a hidden gem. Sure enough, I found a winner:
It's a bed in a bag from Idea Nuova - The twin is $69.99 for the comforter, shams, bedskirt, AND sheet set. Plus, it's the bright, soft blue I was looking for! (Also comes in Taupe, Lavender, and Chocolate) And shipping? Free, since I have Amazon Prime. Even if you don't, it's still much cheaper than Target! My sum total? $69.99, and I don't have anything else to buy for my bed!
